SCRUBBERS

                                 TWO STAGE HORIZONTAL FUME SCRUBBER

A water wash scrubber is the most energy efficient system for the control of water-soluble contaminates.  Airborne contaminant is effectively captured by this simple principle whilst generating a minimal secondary contaminate compared to other systems available.

Contaminate waste disposal is easy and low cost.  A scrubber unit is able to operate on a continual basis, requiring very little maintenance and downtime.  Maintenance costs are extremely low.

A scrubber system offers a constant filtration level to the system operational parameters and design.

THE PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION OF THIS TYPE OF SCRUBBING UNIT IS AS FOLLOWS:

1.  The contaminant being scrubbed must be compatible with water and as such

     must be water soluble.

2.  The air stream must enter the scrubber unit inlet at a velocity not exceeding

2.5m/sec.  This permits adequate retention time within the unit for the

contaminants to adhere to the water molecules.

3.  The air stream passes through a primary and secondary set of impingement type

eliminator plates which "catch" and hold the contaminant while it is subjected to

a water blast from the spray jet nozzles.

4.  The water-laden contaminant falls from the eliminator plates to the collection

sump below and is then drained to trade waste.  A constant water "top-up" is

required to replace this water as well as that lost through evaporation.

FILTRATION EFFICIENCY

Efficiency of water wash scrubbers is generally around 95%.  This level can be improved by including chemical dosing into the system thus increasing the filtration efficiency to between 98 - 99%.

Various medium of filtration can be used in the scrubber unit dependent upon the contaminate in question.  Medium selection relates to contaminate entrapment and retention dwell time.

OVERALL PERFORMANCE IS DEPENDENT ON THE FOLLOWING:

1.  Type and concentration of contaminate.

2.  Method of extraction (e.g. hood, cabinet etc).

3.  Ducting system size and lay-out.

To ensure compatibility and system efficiency of a scrubber filtration system, H N S Fume & Dust Control Pty Ltd would be pleased to assist you with your system design application.

SERVICES REQUIRED

1.  A monitored fresh water "top-up" supply is necessary to ensure adequate dilution rates

     within the scrubber.

2.  Scrubber drainage to trade waste.

3.  Scrubber overflow drain to trade waste.

4.  Provision of power supply for scrubber pump and system extraction fan (if applicable).

MAINTENANCE

1.  Drain and flush out scrubber sump.

2.  Check operation of overflow.

3.  Inspect nozzles for blockages and clear if required.

4.  Check pump operation.
